Just six months after joining up with Epsilon’s digital/direct marketing unit, Purple@Epsilon, Terry Young is “no longer with the agency” according to someone on the other end of the line when we called. Young is still included in the leadership section on Purple’s site, but it looks like inquiries are being referred to P@E’s group creative director, Todd Lancaster. We’ve heard that Young was “fired” and we’ve heard that he “quit,” so obviously we’re trying to determine fact from fiction. Anyhow, the former president joined from RAPP, where he spent two years and allegedly gave a rousing goodbye speech.

Now that Terry Young has landed a new gig at Epsilon, his former employer, RAPP New York, has found his replacement. The latter agency announced that Robert Grammatica will now assume the role of managing director in its Big Apple office. RAPP didn’t have to look too far as Grammatica had already been with the agency since 2007, first helping develop and grow its healthcare practice before taking on the position of global chief client officer earlier this year.
Prior to joining RAPP, Grammatica held EVP posts for several years at both Y&R and Wunderman, working with clients including Merck, Miller Brewing, Xerox, Guinness, MetLife and AT&T. Along with his new MD post, the exec will continue overseeing RAPP’s healthcare practice and client development efforts on a global basis.
Less than a week after we reported that RAPP NY managing director Terry Young was out at that agency after just under two years, we’ve received notice that the exec has now landed at marketing firm Epsilon, more specifically Purple@Epsilon, the agency’s digital/direct unit.
Young, who will still be based in New York, is taking on the role of president effective Dec. 7 and being charged with “building a next-generation agency by leveraging the strengths of Epsilon’s assets combined with a powerful new vision for how brands must be built in the 21st century.” During his tenure at RAPP, Young worked with clients including Mercedes-Benz, Merck, ESPN, NFL, Travel Channel, Johnson & Johnson and General Mills.
We’ve received several tips this week about Terry Young, who’s served as managing director of RAPP’s New York office since May of last year. Sources familiar with the matter tell us that Young has “moved on to a better opportunity” and he already gave his goodbye speech at the agency. From what we’re hearing, Young may have been forced out of his post and is headed to the West Coast (one spy goes as far to say Young is going to serve as a manager at Domino’s in Tacoma, WA…huh?).
RAPP’s PR folks didn’t respond to our inquiries at press time, but we actually reached his secretary and/or assistant who told us that he was “in a meeting.” Perhaps Young is finishing off his time at RAPP? Where oh where art thou, Terry? Give us a shout to clear things up.
Update: Sources familiar with the matter confirm Young is leaving, though a gig at Domino’s unfortunately isn’t in the cards.
