‘Johnny Football’ Goes Lululemon in Snickers Spot

Since this is pre-football week, here’s a BBDO ad for Snickers that tells us that Johnny Manziel is trying to improve upon his personal “brand” after a rough start.

Rather than simply sweating because he was pick #22 in the first round of the draft, he’s sweating here because he has yet to meet his daily calorie count.

Manziel also stars in a new Nissan ad launched today, but we have to wonder whether he will become the celebrity he was born to be given the fact that he’ll be watching the season opener from the sidelines.

Maybe he just needs to serve as the butt of the joke in his next ad.

David&Goliath Brings Back the Hamsters for Kia

To help launch Kia’s first electric vehicle, the Soul EV, the brand’s agency of record, David&Goliath is bringing back the Kia hamsters.

In the spot, entitled “Fully Charged,” several hamsters work in a high tech lab on the new Soul EV, and also turn a regular-sized hamster into a Kia hamster sized lady hamster, clad in a skin-tight leather outfit, which stirs their hamster loins. So the hamster scientist dudes run off to the pet store to get some more hamsters and turn up the party (which concludes with hamster dancing, of course).

The 60-second spot is set to the (horrible) unreleased Maroon 5 single “Animals” and will debut this Sunday during the MTV Video Music Awards. On September 2nd, a 30-second version of the spot will begin running on all major networks and cable, as well as YouTube, Facebook and Kia.com. The campaign will also include digital, OOH, POS, promotional, experiential and social elements. We’ve included the extended version of the spot above. People disturbed by the sexualization of small rodents should avoid watching. Fans of hamster dancing, on the other hand, can head here to learn the moves from the spot. Read more

Kia Best Keep on Dreaming

Now that the Yo Gabba Gabba characters and The Heavy song have been thankfully tucked away in their drawers,   David&Goliath is attempting to open up new doorways for Kia in the spot above called “Sweet Dreams.”

The spot takes us on a journey through a little boy’s imagination as his race car bed turns into a real car, his closet doors open to a magical world and we’re off. Not bad. Nice piece. Midsize sedan, though? Wrong car. Give it up to D&G for trying, though.

Kia decided it was time to elevate the midsize category and show its true potential. The automaker’s goal? Encourage kids to pin up a poster of the 2011 Kia Optima rather than a $250,000 shiny red Ferrari or fancy luxury sedan which is a very tall order if you ask us. This spot fits better for a sports car or luxury sedan, not the Optima. View agency credits after the jump.
