Fruit of the Loom Infuses Luck into New Underwear

Fruit of the Loom and CP+B teamed up to make sure our private parts were covered in luck. Seriously. Lucky underwear. How, you ask? Well, a few guys traveled around America, rubbing new underwear with good luck in places like the Hoover Dam in Boulder City and the Seven Star Cavern Chinatown Wishing Well in Los Angeles. The project is not scientific, but if you care about luck, the original run called for 1,000 men’s underwear and 1,000 women’s underwear. The above video shows a brief behind-the-scenes look at the hokum methods used to make the underwear lucky.

As of publication, 1718 of the 2000 pairs of lucky underwear are still available for an affordable $10 each.

The narrator of the video mentions infusing “legitimate luck” into the fabric, which is stupidly ambitious, since there’s nothing legitimate about luck. That’s the point. But there’s something charming about the earnest dedication and effort Fruit of the Loom put into the project. Plus, the underwear is inexpensive and  soft, so if you don’t care for superstition, there’s always functionality to fall back on. Credits after the jump.

Tung Takes Over for Perez-Armendariz at CP+B

Just over a month after promoting Ivan Perez-Armendariz to the new role of EVP/chief digital officer, Crispin Porter + Bogusky has found his successor in Tony Tung, who has spent the last year as VP, group executive producer at the agency’s Boulder HQ. Tung, who will remain in the Boulder office, will now take on Perez-Armendariz’s former role as VP, director of interactive production.

Tung has spent over three years at CP+B, where he has worked on notable digital efforts including the Dominos “Pizza Hero” iPad app and “Cheesy Font” site as well as Best Buy’s Movie Mode mobile app. During his stint at CP+B, Tung has also been involved in digital projects for Microsoft, Burger King and Old Navy. Says his predecessor in a statement, “The job description for Director of Interactive Production is to lead, make great work and prevent bad work from happening. Tony does this while also building great teams and growing the super producers of the future. It’s great to have his leadership in Boulder.”

Halo’s Spartan Throws a Frisbee

Back in May, we posted a new spot from CP+B that featured Halo protagonist Master Chief receiving a diploma to a standing ovation from his fellow high school classmates. Today we received another spot in the campaign from Crispin for Microsoft’s bundled PC and XBOX 360 deal for college students, this time featuring the Spartan reacting to being hit by a disc thrown by some college bros hanging out in the quad.

While we think “Tour” is a bit of an improvement on its predecessor (Master Chief actually does more than walk across a stage), we still yearn for another Halo spot on the level of “Believe” from a few years back. Maybe we’ll get it when the fifth installment of XBOX’s flagship series drops next year. Credits after the jump.
