Today on the mediabistro.com Morning Media Menu podcast, we were joined by James P. Othmer of Y&R non-fame and author of “ADLAND: Searching for the Meaning of Life on a Branded Planet,” to discuss the day’s big media headlines. We recently posted an ad Othmer made for his book last week.

Today’s we ranted about charging for media content versus giving it away for free, and the power of writing for free as a blogger. We also learned that Othmer had some good times at Y&R, like that one time when he had to fight for a major banking client that had all but left the agency. It was totally embarrassing.

Barry Diller, Chris Anderson and Malcolm Gladwell should be thrown into a cage match,” Othmer said. “And the winner can get to determine the economic model for all media content for the next 100 years.”
