WPP/Y&R Ousts Robert MugabeTribble points us to Financial Times report on a move by WPP/Young & Rubicam to separate itself from dictator and all around anti-Christ Robert Mugabe. "Sir Martin Sorrell, chief executive of WPP, has ordered the divestment of the marketing group's interests in a Zimbabwean advertising agency that is involved in the re-election campaign of President Robert Mugabe, write Ben Fenton and Tom Burgis. More after the jump. In a previous life, I did some reporting on prez. Mugabe. You may have heard recently that he's being accused of tampering with the upcoming presidential "election" but that isn't the half of it. Mugabe is the leader of Zimbabwe, and has been for a long time. The country has been in an economic slump for decades, meaning most Zimbabweans are starving. The only successful crop grown in Zimbabwe is corn, which is also a main ingredient in Maize-Meal, a food-stuff that is commonly provided to starving people. But rather than use the country's corn for the food, (note: millions there are starving) it's being used to produce...dog food. That's right, rather than feeding his starving people, Mugabe is trying to make a buck. Well, we can argue about whether the people should be fed or money should be earned to feed the people later. Wait, yes we can. Feeding your people is always number one. I can't stand this guy, and can't believe WPP got wrapped up with his family. But hey, that's globalism. Email This Post |
