The Role
We are seeking an articulate, highly motivated, and detail oriented person to work on an important strategic project at Bloomberg in New York. The analyst will be responsible for doing a high-level market sizing of a specific industry/vertical. The analyst will then take ownership for building a 3-5 year P&L for a new business venture. This will be a short-term project to start.
The incumbent will work closely with various departments and subject matter experts to gather data as well as define/test assumptions. The incumbent will identify and specify key performance metrics for the new venture and outline a set of early indicators the business will track.
The successful candidate will be a self starter, able to work with other departments, and require minimum supervision. This is a high profile project and the incumbent will have exposure to top executives at Bloomberg.
Responsibilities include:
-Quickly understand the business issues and data challenges of organization and industry
-Reviews and edits requirements, specifications, business processes and recommendations related to proposed venture
-Lead preparation and presentation of concise and insightful financial analysis to support decision making processes
-Apply analytical techniques to help understand the underlying economics of proposed activities, including contribution, incremental and ROI approaches
-Lead development of analytical models and scenarios to assist in guiding the setting of budget targets and periodic forecast and projection updates
-Apply an understanding of data materiality, information relevance, and the limitations of both to all analysis efforts and recommendations
-Mine and analyze large volumes of data to gain insights in users’ behavior to forecast potential revenue opportunities
-Help monitoring competitive landscape and industry trends for related/similar ventures
Qualifications:
-Bachelor Degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, economics or finance
-2-4 years of experience in business analysis and/or finance
-Strong PC skills, specifically advanced in Excel
-Excellent written and oral communication skills
-Must be organized, detail-oriented and have the ability to multitask
-Must be able to work in a close team environment as well as independently
-Experience and/or knowledge of the media industry and associated business models preferred |
