The Manager of Websites and Digital Platforms will be responsible for the day-to-day management, presentation, posting and accuracy of all content that appears on USGA digital channels (USGA websites, social media networks, and apps). This content includes but is not limited to news articles, press releases, photo galleries, videos, info graphics and social media posts. This position will play a key role in planning, programming and coordinating content across all of the Association’s digital channels, while serving as a key contact for USGA Departments, as well as Digital Media (Web Master) and IT.
The ideal candidate is a solutions-oriented self-starter who thinks strategically and can keep the Association’s goals and mission in mind when making decisions. S/he will have advanced digital competency, comfort with content management systems, and experience posting text, photos, videos and social media content. S/he must have a proven track record of effectively packaging and delivering content to various audiences. Excellent copy editing and writing skills are a must, as is familiarity with basic HTML. Our candidate will have experience working in a dynamic environment and managing communications across multiple audiences. Additionally, s/he will have strong interpersonal and project management skills, and a passion for the game of golf. S/He must be available to address website needs during evening and weekend hours. The candidate must be willing to travel and work extended hours during championship season, both on-site at championships and from home or office to support Communications activities at USGA championships, as requested.
Duties Include:
- Deliver the USGA brand by managing presentation and storytelling on USGA digital sites and expertly executing the rotation and posting delivery of content and multimedia assets (articles, video, photos, info graphics, etc.). Evaluate USGA.org homepage and all collateral pages regularly to ensure the website is meeting the USGA’s strategic communications objectives. Maintain content, event and publishing calendars/schedule for websites and social media networks. Work with the Manager of Creative Services and other managers to ensure timely and professional execution of content plans. Work with communications staff to determine the optimal media for presenting content on website.
- Collaborate with others in the Communications Department and with Program Leaders to identify content opportunities and to coordinate execution, publishing and promotion across multiple media (text, video, photos and social) in a timely manner. Partner regularly with Digital Media department to analyze web statistics and key metrics to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Direct, manage and develop USGA Social Media Specialist to leverage the power of social media to effectively build the USGA brand and drive engagement with golf fans.
- Edit web content, write photo captions and headlines, and be accountable for content quality, message consistency and adherence to USGA Style Guidelines. All duties should be carried out with an eye to accuracy, brand tonality, packaging of content, web appropriateness and cross-promotion.
- Leverage content management system, as well as train Communications Team on how to use CMS tools. Partner with Web Master and IT to develop CMS best practices.
- Collaborate with Director of Editorial and Multimedia Content to plan editorial coverage, with a keen eye towards creating compelling championship content and increasing fan engagement. Create original content for USGA websites, including interviewing, researching, and writing stories; editing and traveling for assignments.
- Keep USGA websites current by keeping pace with current digital products and experiences, and working with Web Master, Digital and IT to create new content concepts and services and test new features, as needed.
Knowledge, Education, Skills & Abilities:
- Five to seven years plus of web managerial experience at a major site
- A strong working knowledge of content management systems
- Experience and proficiency in search engine optimization
- Proven editing and writing experience
- A journalism/communications degree
- Basic photo editing skills (using a program such as Photoshop)
- Excellent communication and management skills
- Ability to multi-task and meet ongoing deadline
- Knowledge of the game of golf, especially as it relates to USGA activities and mission |
