The Social Media Editor is responsible for the content on all social channels for Understood and NCLD, representing over 150,000 users. This is a contract position running approximately from September 1 through Mid-January 2015, with some flexibility on the start and end date for the right candidate, while our Social Media Manager is on leave.

This individual works with the editorial and marketing teams to determine what areas of content to promote, schedules posts, and crafts messaging that is customized for each social media channel. He or she also facilitates a weekly Twitter chat, conducts social listening, monitors community response, and refers questions and comments to appropriate staff. He or she also reports on the effectiveness of strategy and campaigns, using social data collection tools.

Reporting into the Director of Digital Strategy, this position requires a self-starter who is ready and able to execute our existing social strategy and report on results. We’re looking a strong writer or editor, with proven experience managing a brand or content property's social media presence.

This is a contract position for approximately 4 months and does not provide benefits. Please include your weekly rate in your response.

Key Responsibilities
Implement the social media editorial plan set in place by the Social Media Manager and Director of Digital Strategy
Create a weekly editorial calendar for every channel (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+), incorporating input from editorial and marketing teams and external PR agencies
Write copy that promotes content across channels
Monitor audience feedback and reply, retweet, or forward to appropriate staff member
Work with Parent Support Coordinator to flag and address user concerns
Moderate a weekly Expert Chat with users
Create graphics by using templates and working with a graphic designer
Work with our Program Assistant to prepare and run #LDchat on Twitter
Work with our Digital Analytics Manager to report results of social campaigns
We work in a loft, so once a week you’ll have to run the dishwasher

Required Experience and Qualifications, and Ideal Attributes
3-5 years as a social media or communities manager
Proven ability to write short, punchy headlines and descriptions that support and reinforce an overall messaging strategy
Experience interacting with customers and/or audiences online, joining conversations organically and guiding tone
Experience using Hootsuite or other social scheduling tools
Experience with basics of Photoshop and Illustrator
Good interpersonal skills
Positive attitude and commitment to teamwork
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple planned and unplanned projects
Acute attention to detail, and dedication to quality assurance and follow-through
Prior knowledge of learning disabilities or educational law is not at all required, but a willingness to learn is essential to understanding user behavior. Feel free to note any personal experience in your application.
