How Did Twitter React To The Birth Of Jay-Z And Beyonce’s Baby? [STUDY]

Back in August, when Beyonce Knowles first announced her pregnancy to the world at the MTV Video Music Awards, the event triggered a new tweets per second (TPS) record on Twitter – a mark which stood until December of last year.

Baby Blue Ivy Carter was born on January 7, and while Beyonce and husband Jay-Z have yet to give the world a glimpse of the newborn, Twitter reacted to the news with considerable gusto.

Social analytics company Simply Measured tracked the impact of the birth of Blue Ivy on Twitter, and while the story didn’t reach the heights of Beyonce’s VMA announcement, things did get pretty wild.

The spike, which peaked at 2,379 TPS on Saturday at 11.15pm PST, was helped by the usual assortment of celebrities and other Twitter power-users sending their well-wishes to the new parents. Hip hop mogul Russell Simmons got the ball rolling, and as Ryan Seacrest, Perez Hilton, People magazine and others waded in, the news rapidly made its way around Twitter.
