First, you need to strive to have something useful to offer: everybody is an expert on something. Actively engage with your audience, and when fans reach out, make sure you take the time to reply. Update frequently and with original content, but don’t sell too hard, or too often. Maintain your brand and your online image – consistency is important and gives people something to cling on to. And finally, make sure you learn the tech and how platforms such as Twitter function, and what they can do. Nothing looks more “amateur” than not knowing how something works.
