Syrian Electronic Army Strikes Again! Where’s Batman When You Need Him?

As the web cries out, yet again, after an attack by the Syrian Electronic Army, those of us fond of 80′s superhero shows feel like we’re watching an episode unfold. And it’s pretty fantastic.

Any minute now, the SuperFriends will come to the rescue.

Either than, or the hacks will just continue. It’s more fun to imagine the former. Ka-pow!

Twitter Co-founder Raises Money For His Mysterious Gelatinous Company

Today we give thanks for the Twitter co-founders penchant for interesting names. We have, of course, the Obvious Corp (which is anything but) and Square (that cool “pay using my smartphone” device), the new blogging platform Medium – and now, bestest of all – Jelly.

Beyond wondering if they’ve employed someone solely to come up with these names, this latest mushy gushy creation of Biz Stone that has left people wondering: “What the Jelly?”

Yahoo/Twitter Partnership Should Worry Google

You’ll remember, once upon a time, tweets were top dog in Google search. And then that relationship dissolved in a sea of vagueness and although you’ll see tweets come up in Google searches today, they’re noticeably appearing after the more Google-y bits of information (like news stories and such, capable of being +1′d on Google+). This is, of course, just as the Twitter Oracle predicted.

But enough about Google, we’re talking Yahoo here. And Yahoo is busy cozying up with Twitter, much to (we imagine) someone at Google’s chagrin who must be thinking, “Maybe Yahoo isn’t as irrelevant as we thought!”

Should Publicly Funded Entities Be Allowed To Block Watchdog Groups On Twitter?

In our earlier post on “tweetblocking being the new junkpunch on Twitter” we introduced you to a watchdog handle, @FixWMATA, that was blocked by the publicly funded entity it was watchdogging: the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

And we’re wondering if publicly funded entities should be allowed to block watchdog groups – or anybody for that matter – on Twitter.

And we’re not the only ones asking.

Canadian Space Agency astronaut Chris Hadfield was live-tweeting his experiences in outer space directly from the International Space Station for the past 146 days.

And now Hadfield has safely returned to Earth – much to the chagrin of his loyal Twitter following.

Twitter’s Latest Valuation? $10 Billion, Reveals Investor Report

Twitter, Inc has been valued at close to $10 billion by one of its largest investors, which is up around 10 percent from the last serious estimate, but down about the same amount from the last time crazy numbers were being thrown about.

In its latest filing, GSV Capital Corp. revealed that they own 1.9 million shares in Twitter with a total value of $35.2 million, or $18.50 per share. Based on an overall (estimated) share figure of almost 530 million, this prices Twitter at a heady $9.8 billion.

Twitter To Open Silicon Valley Branch

Have they already filled their new Market Street nest?

Maybe they just want to edge a bit closer to the Google Monster, so they can collaborate on Glass and other mysteries of the Interwebs . . . or maybe it’s just a more convenient location to scope out and steal more Google employees.

If the story has a happy ending (but still a fantastically horrible beginning and middle) does that change things? Is it ever a good idea to promote your business on the back of others’ pain?

The answer is clearly no, right? Well, we have some extentuating circumstances to present for your consideration that may change your mind. Let’s see if you agree.

Twitter Will Outlast (And Possibly Destroy) Print Publications

When you saw Newsweek’s #LastPrintEdition in December of last year, were you shocked?

Not only by the fact that it would no longer be in circulation, but by the hashtag heralding its end?

If you’ve spent any amount of time on Twitter, you probably weren’t very surprised – the site is THE place for breaking news after all. And now its even hiring someone to head that effort.

But do you think Twitter will outlast print publications like The New York Times? One tech visionary does – and he also finds the whole thing pretty hilarious.

The Syrian Electronic Army, the group behind the April 23 hacking of the Associated Press Twitter account, and more recently CBS, hacked into the E! Online profile on Saturday.

The hackers tweeted a fake “exclusive” allegedly from Justin Bieber announcing that he was gay, which prompted more than 1,000 retweets and more than 350 favorites.
