Twitter And Yahoo: Friends Or Foes?

Yahoo recently announced it would be showing tweets in its real-time search results – and that’s awesome for everyone involved, Yahoo, Twitter, you, me – and should worry Google.

But maybe Twitter should actually be a bit worried too, because Yahoo obviously plans to be at the top of the technology pyramid and one of the companies it must step on in its climb to the top is its new friend, Twitter.

And this has been made crystal clear by Yahoo’s acquisition of Tumblr.

Couple Suing Twitter To Have Handle Returned To Them

Love your Twitter handle? Well, let’s hope there isn’t a business out there with the same name that wants it – or you might be out of luck, Chuck.

A couple in Idaho had a Twitter handle for three years and lost it because a resort going by the same name wanted the handle.

It can’t be THAT easy to lose your Twitter name, can it? Apparently, yes. But they’re fighting to get it back.

Today we give thanks for the Twitter co-founders penchant for interesting names. We have, of course, the Obvious Corp (which is anything but) and Square (that cool “pay using my smartphone” device), the new blogging platform Medium – and now, bestest of all – Jelly.

Beyond wondering if they’ve employed someone solely to come up with these names, this latest mushy gushy creation of Biz Stone that has left people wondering: “What the Jelly?”

Yahoo/Twitter Partnership Should Worry Google

You’ll remember, once upon a time, tweets were top dog in Google search. And then that relationship dissolved in a sea of vagueness and although you’ll see tweets come up in Google searches today, they’re noticeably appearing after the more Google-y bits of information (like news stories and such, capable of being +1′d on Google+). This is, of course, just as the Twitter Oracle predicted.

But enough about Google, we’re talking Yahoo here. And Yahoo is busy cozying up with Twitter, much to (we imagine) someone at Google’s chagrin who must be thinking, “Maybe Yahoo isn’t as irrelevant as we thought!”

In our earlier post on “tweetblocking being the new junkpunch on Twitter” we introduced you to a watchdog handle, @FixWMATA, that was blocked by the publicly funded entity it was watchdogging: the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

And we’re wondering if publicly funded entities should be allowed to block watchdog groups – or anybody for that matter – on Twitter.

Twitter’s Latest Valuation? $10 Billion, Reveals Investor Report

Twitter, Inc has been valued at close to $10 billion by one of its largest investors, which is up around 10 percent from the last serious estimate, but down about the same amount from the last time crazy numbers were being thrown about.

In its latest filing, GSV Capital Corp. revealed that they own 1.9 million shares in Twitter with a total value of $35.2 million, or $18.50 per share. Based on an overall (estimated) share figure of almost 530 million, this prices Twitter at a heady $9.8 billion.
