Two More Twitter API Casualties: TweetChat and TweetGrid

Twitter may have extended the drop dead date for its current API to June 11, but two more developers are already pretty sure their apps won’t survive the switch.

Why are they so sure? One says Twitter introduced a bug that’s already wreaking havoc – and both are currently experiencing problems.

Twitter Settles Suit With TweetAdder, Allowing Tool Once Labeled As Spam Continued Access

You don’t hear it a lot, but one by-product of Twitter’s new API restrictions is the affect it will have on tools typically regarded as spammers.

They’re either disappearing (for the most part) or following the straight and narrow.

One such tool, that Twitter took to court not too long ago, just announced updates that will put it in compliance with the new and improved Twitter. And its capabilities look pretty handy!

If you were the founder of Followgen, you’d out yourself and see how it all shook out . . . after making a bundle of dough, of course.

Breaking! PeopleBrowsr Reaches Firehose Settlement With Twitter

<img class="alignleft wp-image-40847" title="Breaking!
PeopleBrowsr, the folks behind Kred (and others), is one of those developers – but it hasn’t closed up shop. Far from it. It has been battling Twitter since late last year to retain its coveted access to Twitter’s firehose.

And today, they’ve announced a settlement with Twitter.

Twitter Doesn’t Want Flattr Favoriting Its Tweets

It’s Spring and love is in the air. And Twitter, that coy mister/ress is at it again, smacking back third party suitors with a disinterest not seen since Scarlett O’Hara.

The latest app whose advances Twitter has spurned is an interesting piece of sunshine called Flattr. And all it wanted was to pay content creators for their efforts.

Yep, you and I lost out on THIS one.

Well, if you were the CEO of Ribbon, you’d tell the world about it and make Twitter (collectively speaking) look like a jerk.

And if you were the CEO of Chirpify, a Twitter payment processing competitor, you’d likely grin from ear to ear over this decision.

Twitter Casts Video Services Out Into The Cold, Dark Web

Twitter announced some updates to its app on its blog today. The updated features make using Twitter faster and easier – with nifty little bits of awesomeness to boot (read that post to learn more).

The blog didn’t share another piece of news about the update though, one that can be found on the iTunes page: Twitter has cast video services Mobypicture and Vodpod out into the cold, dark Web to fend for themselves (or just, you know, upload their videos somewhere else).

Fortunately, Twitter isn’t something the general public will be using with any regularity five years from now, so maybe they can go live with LinkedIn or something.

Not Everyone Hates Twitter’s New API – And One Company Thinks It’s Pretty Neat

You’ve heard from developers a-plenty complaining about how unfair Twitter has been to them lately. And you’ve heard the doom and gloom about those being shut down due to Twitter’s pending API changes. Heck, we even started an API Limit Death Watch to chronicle the gruesome details.

Imagine our surprise to come across a developer singing Twitter’s praises – and even after they’ve gone through the process of implementing the required API changes.

Twitter Scheduling Blackout Tests To Prepare Developers For API Retirement

Developers take note: If you’ve yet to prep your app for transition (or destruction) once Twitter’s API v1 retires next month, now is the time.

Twitter is helping your prepare for its new and improved API by scheduling “blackout tests” that will show you how your app will look once they flip the switch.

These tests should also be helpful for those developers struggling with the 7 stages of grief. Seeing your app konk out will slingshot you from denial to acceptance in snap, because you’ll realize you have no choice.

Twitter’s Certified Products Program Adds New Members, A New Manager And New Verticals

Are you a disgruntled developer who did not fit the new and improved Twitter mold for coveted API access? Maybe you’re still hanging on by a thread, hoping something will change. Or maybe you were cast out like a black cat on Halloween.

Either way, take heart, you red-headed stepchild: there is hope for you yet. Twitter will soon be adding new verticals to its certified products program and that could result in Twitter saying “I choose you!”

Another Tweet-Powered App Bites The Dust

But are Twitter’s new API restrictions to blame?

Developers Hitting Twitter API Wall – Hard

Third-party app developers have been hitting that Twitter API wall – hard.

And it has given rise to a new post category here at AllTwitter: the Twitter API Limit Death Watch.
