Laughs Likely When Twitter’s CEO Speaks At Alma Mater

Wouldn’t you love to go to your high school reunion and say “yeah, I haven’t been up to much . . . still just doing the CEO thing at Twitter.” Bam.

Well, Twitter’s CEO, Dick Costolo could do that. But this post isn’t about high school reunions or showing off – it’s about college (and showing off).

Costolo will be speaking at his alma mater this month, sharing how he became CEO at Twitter. Oh and he was a comedian for a while too, so there are bound to be some funny moments.

Costolo earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan in 1985 and it returning to campus on November 16 for a “Policy Talk” as part of the Ford School lecture series.

Costolo will discuss how he went from the trenches of computer science at U-M to leading a world-changing company.

Costolo, a former improv comedian, plans to take a look at the evolution of communications throughout history and Twitter’s role in the future of global communication and democratized information.

And it looks like Costolo is as excited to speak as students are to hear him:

AnnArbor.com reports that “University of Michigan officials visited Twitter’s California office earlier this year to talk with Costolo and other Twitter leaders about how to maximize U-M’s presence on Twitter.”

From those discussions, the student-led @UmichStudents account was born. The university-sponored account has a different student tweeting each week so followers can get a sense of what it’s like to be a student at the Ann Arbor school.

If you’ll be in the area and want to check it out, the event is free and open to the public. You can learn more about it here. And it will also be live streamed and, of course, you can follow along with the #hashtag chat #twitteratumich.

Have you ever been asked to speak at your alma mater?
