Twitter Suspends Romney Parody Account Just Before Speech

Where’s the similarity? #RomneyRyan2012 was a promoted trend last night – and promoted trends are not cheap.

It’s #PositiveTwitterDay Today: Will You Participate?

Did you know that today is #PositiveTwitterDay? In an effort to get a little camaraderie going on the 140-character network, a group of people are sending out messages of positivity in each tweet – and, like any online movement these days, a group of detractors are trolling.

With New 1 Cent Ad Prices, Twitter’s On Track To Earn $350M This Year

Yesterday Twitter launched interest-based targeting for their advertising products, allowing brands and marketers to target users based on the content of the tweets they send and the accounts they follow.

Along with this announcement came a somewhat overlooked fact: Twitter is lowering their minimum ad bid from 50 cents to just one penny. And some analysts believe this move could bump up their yearly ad earnings significantly.

Facebook, Twitter Rated The Riskiest Social Media Sites For Brands [STUDY]

You’ve heard all about the good things that social media can do for your business – brand awareness, customer support, affordable marketing, boosting website traffic and driving sales – but what about the risks?

Platforms such as Twitter and Facebook empower companies to liaise with customers and engage prospects, but the open, transparent nature of these channels can leave firms vulnerable to public criticism that can quickly damage brand reputation.

The 36 Rules Of Social Media [INFOGRAPHIC]

Everyone’s an influencer. The consumer is out for himself (not for you). Optimize content. It’s an organism, not a process. Think past vanity metrics (like followers). Update your Facebook Page… or delete it.

Good advice, right? As much as it frustrates marketers, the business of social media is as much an art as it is a science, but there are some tried and tested rules and guidelines that just work. And brands, new and old, need to pay attention.

Twitter’s New Interest Targeting Is Interesting, But Will It Work?

Twitter announced a new offering today: Interest targeting. And it’s . . . interesting.

Unlike Facebook, which focuses on clearly identified audience segments, Twitter has decided it will identify target audiences based on “interests.” This sounds great – but will it work?

That’s a pretty stocky number that ranks only behind online reviews (28 percent), speciality websites (42 percent), department store websites (43 percent) and the apparel brand’s own website (45 percent) – and already some way ahead of traditional media, such as TV, newspapers and magazines – amongst consumers.

Twitter Co-Founder Biz Stone To Direct Short Film

Biz Stone, who co-founded Twitter alongside Jack Dorsey and Evan Williams, is one of a group of celebrities who are teaming up with multiple Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard (Cocoon, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind) to make a short film, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.

Stone, who left Twitter in June of last year, and began his career as a graphic artist, says that he was drawn to the project because it allows him to scratch a longtime “creative itch”.

Twitter And Facebook Vs. Branded Communities – Which Is Better For Customer Support? [INFOGRAPHIC]

Cast your mind back, oh, five or ten years, to the days before social media had evolved into the behemoth we know and (mostly) love today.

Back then – in days of yore, as I like to call it – if you wanted online customer support from a brand you had to visit their website, find the contact page and send them an email. Brands that were ahead of their time – and prepared to do the moderation – installed feedback tools and, occasionally, support forums on their sites. Brave as they were, many of these attempts were folly, and plenty of businesses embraced the Get Satisfaction community customer support platform when it launched in 2007.

Fast forward to 2012. Now it’s all social, social, social. Where do most people go online when they’ve got a problem or complaint about a product? To the brand’s Facebook and Twitter pages, right? Wrong. At least according to Get Satisfaction.
