Is Social Media Destroying Productivity? [INFOGRAPHIC]

Good news! That work project is almost complete, and you find yourself with a few minutes to kill. Heck, you’ve earned it. So, what’s the first thing you do? Have a quick look at Twitter? Read the latest posts from your friends on Facebook? Browse all that goodness on Pinterest?

Sure you do. Nothing wrong with that. But isn’t it amazing how often that “quick look” escalates into something a lot more substantial… and disruptive?

What Do You Think Of Twitter’s Halloween Pumpkins? [PHOTO]

Halloween (or Hallowe’en or All Hallows’ Eve, depending on where you are) is celebrated in some capacity (with a few notable exceptions) in almost every major country around the world, and carving pumpkins into spooky Jack-o’-lanterns is a very popular pursuit that dates back centuries.

Indeed, some people take it all very seriously indeed, and one can be both humbled by some of the amazing creations you see on the interwebs, and invigorated by many of the disasters.

How Are Political Magazines Using Twitter To Talk About The Election?

The Twittersphere is abuzz with talk of the fast-approaching 2012 Presidential Election. With the debates behind us and the candidates on the last legs of their campaign trails, one researcher wanted to know how political magazines were capitalizing on all of the politically-charged tweeting in the final stretch of the elections.

This Visualization Reveals How The USA Is Talking About Hurricane Sandy On Twitter [MAP]

Quite a lot, it turns out, thanks to this interactive visualisation from the Oxford Internet Institute at the University Of Oxford, who collected tweets containing the words “flood” or “flooding” between October 29-30 to evaluate how people are coping with and talking about the disaster on Twitter.

The rise of the second (and, in some cases, third and fourth) screen in our homes has revolutionised the way that we enjoy and interact with our favourite TV shows – and their audiences – with 62 percent of people using social networks and forums whilst watching TV each week.

How to Ask Questions on Twitter… And Get Answers

If you’ve been on Twitter for any length of time, you’ll know that simply sharing links isn’t enough to really engage your followers. You’ve got to be interesting, stand out from the crowd, and make them want to listen to you. And one of the best ways to start is by asking questions.

How Frequently Should You Tweet? [STATS]

This study asks a new – and particularly effective – question to determine your best number of times to tweet per day: are your tweets getting retweets? And if not, should you tweet more or less?

The Top 10 Most Popular Lists On Twitter

Lists are one of Twitter’s most powerful features, but they’re criminally underused – both by users, and Twitter themselves.

Indeed, with each new design update, Twitter seems to bury lists deeper and deeper into their platform (although they’re always accessible via your Profile page). However, they remain popular with Twitter veterans and power users, as they allow you to set up and follow specific subsets of users over any topic or theme that you choose. And when a list has been created, anyone can follow it, which means that all of us can benefit from any other user’s hard work.

But what are the most popular lists across all of Twitter?
