The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) aired on Sunday and as the event aired in real time fans took to Twitter to chat about their favourite stars and VMA moments.
Indeed, according to @NielsenSocial, some 12.6 million tweets were written in the U.S. alone about the VMAs, peaking at 138,792 TPM (tweets per minute) when Miley Cyrus won video of the year.
Beyoncé’s performance and appearance on stage with Jay Z and daughter Blue Ivy picked up 97,153 TPM, while Lorde’s win for Best Rock Video tallied 89,029 TPM.
Overall, however, 5SOS received the most mentions of any artist on Twitter, ahead of Ariana Grande, Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj.
