PostUp today announced its acquisition of Echofon, a suite of Twitter applications used by over 3 million people. These applications will be added to PostUp’s Twitter search application and Android application.
Echofon, developed by naanstudio, was one of the first Twitter applications to introduce real-time streaming capabilities to its Twitter desktop application. Along with its desktop application, Echofon also includes an iPad and iPhone Twitter application, and an Echofon for Facebook app is available for iPhone.
Bill Gross, CEO of PostUp has this to say about the acquisition of Echofon:
“We want to stay true to Echofon’s design and user interface roots while expanding the features and functions available to their users by bringing them into the broader PostUp family. Echofon is a natural complement to our other Twitter app, Twidroyd, one of the most popular and best-reviewed Twitter apps on Android.”
PostUp is perhaps best known for its bid-based marketplace for Twitter search results. They hope to promote the most authoritative Twitter users on a given topic by using an algorithm that calculates the quality, relevance and influence of authors and tweets, along with using a paid search results model. In this way, they strive to help Twitter users find the most authoritative users to follow within a given niche.
The acquisition of Echofon will give PostUp an app presence on most major devices: iPad, iPhone, Android and desktop.
