Find (And Avoid) The Latest Scams With ScamDetector

Sick of scams? We’re not just talking about scams you see online, but scams in general?

Well, so are the folks at ScamDetector – and they send out free alerts via their Twitter.

@ScamDetector™ “is an award-winning free service that exposes the world’s most fraudulent activities. Learn how they work & how to protect yourself.”

Visiting their site, you’ll see the web-based app can be downloaded on your smartphone and it highlights more than 550 of the world’s most fraudulent activities. They share the week’s Top 10 Scams (as reported by the Better Business Bureau) and also provide a place to report new scams.

Sounds great – how did it start?

The Scam Detector app was created after the outstanding success of The 419: The Nigerian Scam, a short film which quickly became a viral hit, being viewed over a million times online. The docu-drama was the first movie ever made on the infamous 419 topic. [A 419 scam is an advance fee scam.]

Their goal is to “help millions of people around the globe engage in conscious consumer choices.” And that sounds good to us!

So the next time you’re offered something that sounds too good to be true, check out your Scam Detector app – and remember: Even if it isn’t there yet, that doesn’t mean it’s not a scam. You can help others by reporting shady practices.

Were you ever fooled by a scam?
