That’s what the folks at SocialFlow, the social media optimization platform, wanted to know, so they did a rigorous study of the audience of several of the most prominent news sources on Twitter, including the New York Times, The Economist, The BBC and Al Jazeera.

They found that each news organization had different audiences and saw different types of engagement, but there were some significant overlaps. Can you guess whether Fox News or Al Jazeera saw more engagement?

Al Jazeera Uses Promoted Tweets to Reach Western Audiences

They may have been censored, discredited and even thrown in jail, but the members of Al Jazeera aren’t backing down. Rather than bow to Murabak’s pressure that they stop covering the protests in Egypt, the Qatar-based news organization is reaching out to Western audiences – most of whom don’t have access to their English-language channel – using Twitter.
