Developers use APIs to make the applications, clients and widgets that you use and enjoy to interact with your favourite websites. For example, TweetDeck, HootSuite and TweetBot all tap into Twitter’s API, which receives billions of calls each day.

Klout, the analytics company that measures the influences of users across their social networks, is the newest member of this API billionaires club, serving more than two billion API calls in June across their 3,000 partner-developers.
