The candybar maker Mars was under scrutiny for promoting its Snickers bar on Twitter, using celebrity accounts to hype the chocolatey goodness. But a watchdog group has determined that they were free to do so, even though the majority of the tweets did not indicate that they were advertisements.
If you think their lifestyle is too decadent, look away now: celebrities can earn thousands of dollars for just typing (or, more likely, getting an assistant to type) 140 characters.

It’s a strange phenomenon, these celebrity Twitter deaths that runs rampant on the network from time to time. Someone (for reasons that are completely unknown to me) starts the rumor that a particular larger-than-life figure has died, other latch on, and soon “RIP Celebrity” is trending on Twitter.
It happens to everyone at one time or another. You have the best intentions, but you’re rushing or you’re typing on your phone or you think it looks okay until you hit “send now.”
TV host and former “Apprentice” Jenn Hoffman has been kicked out of the celebrity-magnet Chateau Marmont – for a single tweet. And while the Marmont assures us it was because of Hoffman’s breach of one of its celebrity guests’ privacy and not just because she tweeted, this fiasco raises some questions about free speech and the nature of Twitter.
If you want to let James Franco know just how adorable you think he is, you’ll have to go the old-fashioned, letter-writing route: the former Oscar host and high-profile celebrity has deleted his Twitter account, just about a month after setting it up.
