7 Ways To Network More Effectively On Twitter

So you’ve signed up for a Twitter account and started following a few people. You’ve set up your bio and profile picture, customized your background, and you’re tweeting pretty regularly. You’re doing everything right, but you’re not getting the level of engagement you expected. Instead of turning your nose up and figuring that Twitter must really be about sharing what you had for lunch, try these tips to network more effectively.

No One’s Listening To Your Tweets? Start Putting Your Twitter Handle Everywhere

If 140-characters get sent on Twitter and there’s no followers to see them, were they really sent at all?

Deep, isn’t it? OK, it might not be the most elegant philosophical thought experiment there is, but it does raise the question of whether or not your tweets are being heard.

If you have only a handful of followers who barely interact with your tweets, you’re not getting much out of Twitter. Here’s how to fix that.

HOWTO: Find Your Favorite Twitter Users On Google+

If you’re having trouble finding interesting people on Google+, why not look to the network you have already built – namely, your Twitter friends? It’s easy to look up which of your followers and friends are on Twitter, so you can hear more from them than 140 characters allows.

HOW TO Connect Your LinkedIn Profile With Twitter For Better Networking

Both Twitter and LinkedIn are great for networking with professionals, co-workers and business associates. But rather than flipping between the two networks, they’ve made it easy to connect to one another in order to leverage both at the same time. Here’s how.

There Is A Biological Limit To How Many Friends You Can Have On Twitter [Study]

Think again. A new study has been released that suggests that there is a biological limit to how many friends you can have on social networks, and it’s probably not as high as you think.

Twitter Quietly Rolls out “Connections” Feature, Gets Rid of “You Both Follow”

This displays the users who you both follow, as well as the users who follow both of you.

Why Path Poses no Threats to Twitter

It’s been called the “anti-Twitter“, and it’s making quite a stir in social media circles. Path‘s premise is that we all need a smaller, more exclusive social network made up of those closest to us to get the most out of the social experience. With a friend cap set to only 50 connections, this network flies in the face of Twitter, which allows for millions of followers and friends. However, since the two networks rely on such different logics of connection, there’s very little chance that Twitter users will migrate over to Path, even to get away from the noise or complexity of Twitter.

Have We Connected?

Twittercism is only a few months old but has already built a strong number of subscribers and regular visitors, with folks taking advantage of the different ways to read the content of this blog, via RSS reader, email, the Kindle, and of course the website itself.

A lot of my readers have come to this website thanks to my presence on Twitter, where through the @Sheamus account I share a lot of great content from my travels around the internet.

Others have arrived at Twittercism from social media bookmarking portals, such as Digg, Reddit and Stumbleupon, thanks to the kindness of those who have been generous enough to submit my articles to these sites.

And I’ve been fortunate enough to be mentioned and quoted on many great sites such as Mashable, ReadWriteWeb, ZDNet and Techmeme.

This is all fantastic, but because of the different paths that lead everybody to this site, there’s an element of disparity about these connections. This is the time to rectify that!

The key word in social networking is, of course, social. Here are the ways we can socialise!

Twitter

As mentioned, you can follow me on Twitter by hooking up with @Sheamus (http://twitter.com/Sheamus). That’s me.
