Back in December, Twitter teamed up with ESPN and Ford to provide embedded replays from football games in posts sent via Twitter.
The replays, which each began with a short promotional clip for the Ford Fusion, were selected by ESPN’s college football editors and promoted by both ESPN and Ford to people not following Ford or ESPN on Twitter, but solid potential followers based on the people they follow and what they tweet about.
The partnership was evidently a success (in fact, ESPN said the video highlights were seen more than 7 million times), because Twitter and ESPN are amping up their joint efforts.

Why? Because the older the players get and the more they’re on the national radar, the higher the standards are for their public image, a large part of which is the content they’re presenting to the world via social media.
Not surprisingly, Twitter’s event attracted marketers from more than 250 leading agencies and brand and #Twitter4Brands trended nationally on Twitter.

Well, Twitter and ESPN are going to help you step that up a notch by offering new programs that will be promoted online and on-air across Twitter, ESPN, and ABC and ESPN’s digital properties.
Following @theonion’s still record 485,000 cull last month, ESPN (@espn) becomes the latest high-profile Twitter account to essentially start over and unfollow almost everybody in their network.
From 102,467 on May 12 to just 54 at the time of writing – a drop of 102,413 in about 48 hours. That’s a reduction of 99.94 per cent. It’s also a very smart move, as Twitter simply doesn’t work if you follow tens of thousands of people back.
And with the new Business Center toolkit on the horizon, there’s absolutely no need for brands to clutter up their screens with everybody and their uncle just because they might want to send over a direct message. My money’s on @wholefoods next.
