Visualized: How The World Responded Typhoon Haiyan On Twitter

When Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines on November 7 it was the strongest tropical storm ever to hit land.

Twitter became the go-to forum for collecting donations en masse, calling for help, locating friends and family members and seeking or providing real-time information about the storm.

Twitter data visualization scientist Nicolas Garcia Belmonte developed an amazing interactive map that shows every geotagged tweet mentioning the word “help” in one of 22 different languages combined with key terms around the disaster.

Languages Of New York, According To Twitter [MAP]

Data analysts James Cheshire, Ed Manley, and John Barratt have created a very cool map depicting the most commonly used languages in New York, based on the ones used on Twitter.

The team visualized the geography of about 8.5 million geo-located tweets collected between January 2010 and February 2013, with language detected using Google’s translation tools.
