Social media as a platform for sourcing news is now especially popular amongst Gen Yers (i.e., young people) – more than a third find news via these channels – with Facebook (67 percent), Twitter (16 percent) and Pinterest (15 percent) leading the way.

Overall, digital/mobile is now second only to television as the most popular way to consume news media in the U.S., having effectively swapped places with the rapidly-falling newspaper industry over the last two years, which is now languishing in fourth place behind radio.
