Women Trust Pinterest More Than Twitter, Prefer Blogs For Purchase Decisions [INFOGRAPHIC]

Did you know that, in a recent survey, 73 percent of female users said that they trust Twitter?

Trust, of course, is paramount to success for any online platform, and drives people to action, particularly when it comes to e-commerce. Twitter was second behind only Pinterest (81 percent) as the most trusted social network for women, and 31 percent said that they had gone on to buy an item recommended to them through the micro-blogging channel.

Or that Club Penguin has more folks on its staff roster than Twitter?

The world of social media is complex and growing all the time, with different networks gaining popularity seemingly on a monthly basis. Facebook continues to lead the way, of course, but new players such as Pinterest are making serious waves, and even old hands like Reddit have found a surge of renewed interest.

But how do they all match up?

Facebook leads the way by some distance, with 55 percent of users favouring that platform ahead of Twitter (22 percent) and Pinterest (14 percent), but it’s the latter that rules the roost when it comes to converting: 59 percent of Pinterest users have purchased an item they saw on the pinboarding site.

Pinterest Users More Likely To Buy, Spend Twice As Much As Twitter, Facebook Referrals [STUDY]

Based on the latest referral traffic and active user statistics, Pinterest has moved above LinkedIn as the third most-popular social network in the world – the daily number of Pinterest users has risen by 145 percent since January 1, 2012.

But where Pinterest is really making waves is as a source of referral traffic, notably in the e-commerce sector – a new study has revealed that buyers referred from Pinterest are not only 10 percent more likely to buy than those sent from other social channels, but they spend twice as much.

These impressive numbers are only bettered by Facebook, which has a slight edge over Twitter in overall usage (97 percent) but dwarfs the micro-blobbing network in audience size. The top Facebook-using internet retailers average almost one million fans a piece, and some 43 retailer Facebook Pages have more than a million Likes.

Along the way, consumers shopping online will expand some 15 percent, from 167 million in 2012 to 192 million by 2016, spending an average of £1,094.07 (about $1,800) per person per year.
Pinterest Outperforms Twitter, Facebook For Purchase Power [INFOGRAPHIC]

Is Pinterest here to stay?

Perhaps. Certainly, the evidence is mounting that the pinboarding network of choice is making a big dent in the social space. Studies have shown that users spend more time on Pinterest than on Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+ combined, and new data reveals that the (ahem) interest in Pinterest is now so strong that the platform is outperforming both Twitter and Facebook for click-through revenue.

Is it time to start buying into all that hype?

And if every one of Facebook’s 845 million users shortened their daily showers by a single minute, we’d save enough water to fill over one million olympic-sized swimming pools?

Does a check-in have any legitimate worth to a business? Can you put a price on a userbase – even in the early stages of a network’s development?

Social media is still in its infancy, and valuing not much more than 10 years of data isn’t perhaps as straightforward as it sounds. Using publicly-available information, Backupify looked at Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Path and others to determine which of these companies, and their social media actions therein, have the greatest value.

Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest – How Much Time Do We Spend On Social Media Sites? [INFOGRAPHIC]

[INFOGRAPHIC]" src="http://www.mediabistro.com/alltwitter/files/2012/02/facebook-twitter-linkedin-pinterest.png" alt="" width="200" height="202" />While it’s certainly true that social media can be addictive, not all social networking sites are as ‘sticky’ as each other.

It probably won’t surprise you that Facebook is the stickiest social website of them all, with the users spending an average of 405 minutes on the site in January. This is well ahead of Tumblr and rising star Pinterest, which tie at 89 minutes each, with Twitter, LinkedIn and MySpace rounding out the pack.

And the wooden spoon? That goes to Google+, which sees an average visit time of just 3 minutes per month from its users.

Did you know that every 60 seconds Twitter sees (on average) 175,000 new tweets?

Or that over that same time period, Pinterest receives 1,090 visitors, LinkedIn absorbs 7,610 searches and Flickr users upload 3,125 photos?

And if you think those numbers are impressive, how about this: each and every minute of the day, 700,000 messages are sent on Facebook, and an incredible two million videos are watched on YouTube.

Users Spend More Time On Pinterest Than Twitter, LinkedIn And Google+ Combined [STATS]

Social pin-boarding site Pinterest is getting a ton of hype at the moment. It seems that every tech blog is waxing lyrical about Pinterest’s rapid ascent to 10 million uniques, the site’s broad appeal to female users and its traffic-driving power. Heck, even Mark Zuckerberg has signed up.

Lots and lots of hype. But is it deserved?

Well, here’s another pro-Pinterest stat: American users of the social network spend an average of 1 hour and 17 minutes on the site, well ahead of Twitter (36 minutes), LinkedIn (17 minutes) and Google+ (6 minutes). In fact, Pinterest gets more monthly usage than all of these other platforms combined.
