With New 1 Cent Ad Prices, Twitter’s On Track To Earn $350M This Year

Yesterday Twitter launched interest-based targeting for their advertising products, allowing brands and marketers to target users based on the content of the tweets they send and the accounts they follow.

Along with this announcement came a somewhat overlooked fact: Twitter is lowering their minimum ad bid from 50 cents to just one penny. And some analysts believe this move could bump up their yearly ad earnings significantly.

At the Cannes advertising festival, Twitter’s CEO Dick Costolo told audiences that Twitter will aggressively expand its advertising products to 50 countries worldwide by the end of 2012.

The State Of Twitter’s Revenue Strategy [INFOGRAPHIC]

The speculation game over Twitter’s revenue is going wild. Some believe the company will bring in $226 million in revenue this year, others predict closer to $400 million, and some even think it will reach a billion in just two years.

And while it’s still private, we probably won’t be hearing any official numbers from Twitter for a while – but this infographic from TheNology.com explores what we do know.

Twitter Ads to Grow Faster than Average Social Media Ad Spend Through 2015

Twitter Targets Small, Medium Businesses with New Ad Platform

As eMarketer predicts, Twitter will make $150 million in advertising revenue this year – and the company is doing everything they can to get there. While most of us have seen Promoted Tweets from big name companies like Coca-Cola, Dell and Ford, Twitter is shifting gears a bit and starting to focus on small- and medium-sized businesses for its advertising products.

Pricing Determined for Tweets from Firehose

As part of a partnership announced in November, Twitter has begun selling access to tweets directly from the firehose. The company in charge of allowing customers access to Twitter’s firehose, Gnip, announced last week the pricing model for receiving a constant stream of tweets related to a keyword.
