Should Twitter Troll Face Jail Time For Tweeting Lies During An Emergency?

Hurricane Sandy’s effects are still being felt along the East Coast of the United States, with many people turning to Twitter for updates during the storm’s peak.

And despite the many good Samaritans who provided support, updates and help in 140-characters, the top Twitter news story to come out of the storm this week is probably the Twitter troll who misled thousands with his deceptive tweets.

This Visualization Reveals How The USA Is Talking About Hurricane Sandy On Twitter [MAP]

What can Twitter tell us about Hurricane Sandy, specifically how the aftermath of the superstorm is impacting the USA?

Quite a lot, it turns out, thanks to this interactive visualisation from the Oxford Internet Institute at the University Of Oxford, who collected tweets containing the words “flood” or “flooding” between October 29-30 to evaluate how people are coping with and talking about the disaster on Twitter.
