How Do Engineers Use Social Media? [INFOGRAPHIC]

Did you know that a recent study revealed that 61 percent of engineers use social media for work-related activities?

Facebook is, as usual, the platform of choice, with more than two-thirds (67 percent) of engineers favouring that channel, ahead of LinkedIn (43 percent), Google+ (33 percent) and Twitter (22 percent).

56 percent of respondents to BtoB Magazine‘s 2013 Outlook: Marketing Priorities And Plans survey said that their marketing spend on channels such as Twitter and Facebook will rise this year, with social media being favoured above both search (52.5 percent) and mobile (a surprisingly low 35.5 percent).

13% Rate Their Company As “Advanced” In Social Media [SURVEY]

<img src="http://www.mediabistro.com/alltwitter/files/2013/01/confused-300x200.jpg" alt="" title="13% Rate Their Company As "Advanced" In Social Media" width="300" height="200" class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-34424" />

Ever feel completely overwhelmed online? Like there are just too many social networks to participate in, blog posts to read, tweets to retweet, Facebook posts to like, Instagram photos to scroll through?

You’re definitely not alone.

Even, surprisingly, when it comes to companies and their digital presences. In a survey conducted by Ragan and NASDAQ OMX Corporate Solutions, just 13% of communicators said their organization was “an advanced, well-run machine,” while nearly two-thirds said they have more to learn and accomplish.

Well, if you’re of a certain age, chances are that you reach for your phone. Cisco surveyed 3,600 college students and workers aged 18-30 across 18 countries and discovered that nine out of ten respondents check their smartphones for updates in email, texts and social media sites, often before they get out of bed.

The Pew Research Center’s Global Attitudes Project surveyed twenty-one nations and discovered that Britain leads the world in social media use, with 52 percent of its citizens reporting that they use platforms such as Twitter and Facebook, placing the country ahead of the U.S. (50 percent), Russia (50 percent), the Czech Republic (49 percent) and Spain (49 percent).

Marketers Out Of Sync With Social Customers, Too Focused On Twitter, LinkedIn, Says Survey [STUDY]

Twitter has long been a favourite for marketers and PR companies looking to raise brand awareness, drive website footfall and boost sales of their favourite clients, but a recent study has revealed that there is a clear disconnect between what consumers want, and what marketers think they want, from social media, and this includes the channels where you will find them.

The Pitney Bowes Software study revealed that some 57 percent of marketing decision-makers use Twitter compared with just 31 percent of internet users worldwide.

Yep, that Michael Phelps. The one with 22 medals, 18 of them gold. The winningest athlete in Olympic history. 3 percent of folks thought he’d collected that haul in track and field.

Americans Stay Informed With Social Media, Still Don’t Really Trust It [STUDY]

But there have to be limits, right? Some boundaries?

Apparently not, as a new study has revealed that some people will stop doing almost anything to respond to that all-important tweet… even if they’re having sex.
