#SOTU Tweets Top Last Year’s Volume Despite Dorner Distraction

If you were on Twitter last night, you may have missed President Obama’s State of the Union address as theDorner standoff proved a big distraction (particularly with all the “breaking news” that was reported).

But despite that, it’s interesting to note that the #SOTU still bested its last tweet record by a pretty hefty margin.

How Twitter Responded To The State Of The Union [INFOGRAPHIC]

Did you watch the State of the Union address on TV yesterday? Did you tweet about it, update your Facebook or vlog about it? If you were on Twitter while the President was addressing the nation, you probably noticed the topic taking over the Trending Topics list, and your timeline filling up with tweets quoting the president as he spoke.

Twitter partnered with the White House to integrate social media with the State of the Union, directing users to certain Twitter accounts to follow the major announcements and reactions. And, once the President was off the air, they put together an infographic detailing how the Twitterverse responded.

Top 5 Ways to Follow Obama’s State of the Union on Twitter

The State of the Union may not have the same great commercials as the Super Bowl, but it’s still an annual television event that gets people talking. Whether you’re tuning in because you genuinely care about Obama’s vision for America, because you just want to sound intelligent at your next dinner party, or because all of your favorite shows are interrupted and there isn’t anything else to watch, Twitter can enhance the experience at least a little. Here are the top 5 ways to reap those benefits.

The Birdy Politic: Fact-Checking the State of the Union in Real-Time
