How To Navigate Twitter Like A Pro With Keyboard Shortcuts [INFOGRAPHIC]

Back in the days of yore, navigating around your personal computer often depended as much on your knowledge of keyboard shortcuts as it did your dexterity with a mouse.

For example, word processors and other document-editing software have used shortcuts such as CTRL+B (for bold) and CTRL+I (for italics) pretty much since the beginning of (their) time. And when the internet kicked off, many websites looked to incorporate these keyboard commands into their own online tools. Some added a bunch of new ones of their own, and one of the sites that loves the keyboard shortcut is Twitter.

It’s not enough to just set up a profile and expect wonderful things to start to happen, as if by magic. Twitter, like life, doesn’t work that way. You need to do the work, and you need to put in the hours.

And the good news?

Maximize Your Marketing Efforts With This Twitter Cheat Sheet [INFOGRAPHIC]

Did you know that Twitter engagement rates for brands are 17 percent higher on weekends, tweets that include images have engagement rates twice that of those that do not and tweets that use more than two hashtags actually see a significant drop in engagement?

Twitter has a pretty steep learning curve. When you’re new, especially if you’re a brand looking to use the social micro-blogging platform to raise awareness of your business, products and services, it can quickly get overwhelming. And, despite your best intentions, it’s very easy to make some pretty costly mistakes that can actually have a negative impact on your results.

Want More Followers On Twitter? Be Positive, Write Clearly And Retweet Well [STUDY]

Be Positive, Write Clearly And Retweet Well [STUDY]" src="http://www.mediabistro.com/alltwitter/files/2013/02/follow-us-button.png" alt="" width="200" height="200" />How do you get more followers on Twitter?

For brands and individuals alike, it’s the age-old question. Like it or not, for many people size still matters on Twitter, and you’re far more likely to attract new followers if you’ve already got quite a few to your name.

So how do you convince others to get on board your Twitter-train (especially if you’re new)? Engage with influencers? Use certain hashtags? Tweet more? Tweet less?

Nope. The best thing to do is to be positive, say scientists.

8 Best Practices For Using Twitter For Business [INFOGRAPHIC]

Twitter comes with a pretty steep learning curve, and brands looking to maximise their ROI (return on investment) on the micro-blogging social network need to ensure that they’re on the right path.

But where to begin? Well, sharing photos and behind the scenes information about your business is a great start. Make sure you’re listening to your customers and all of the Twitter mentions about your company. Ask questions of your followers. And, perhaps most importantly, establish a clear and consistent brand voice – how to you want YOUR business to appear on Twitter?

It’s been a little while since AllTwitter published Five Tips for Twitter Newbies, and at the rate social media refines and updates itself, it’s not too soon for an update.

Here are five easy steps to get started on Twitter. If you’re a long-time user, use the steps as an excuse to assess whether your Twitter M.O. needs tweaking.

10 Twitter Power Tips That Guarantee More Retweets

Retweets are the backbone of the Twitter network. Thanks to the ripple effect, a retweet allows any user’s message to be seen by any and everybody – theoretically at least, your single tweet could reach 140+ million people.

This isn’t hyperbole – it’s a literal statement. All those interlocking micro-communities mean that everyone is connected to everybody else.

But, it takes effort. You can’t just put any old garbage out there and expect your network to lap it up. You need to do the work.

No Time To Waste? How To Dramatically Improve Twitter In Five Minutes (Or Less)

Twitter has a pretty steep learning curve and can take a lot of work, certainly if you’re a company looking to use the platform for marketing or brand awareness. There are very few overnight success stories.

But not everybody uses Twitter in this way. For many people, Twitter is something of a luxury. They don’t have endless amounts of time to devote to the platform, instead preferring to dip in and out as and when they have a moment or two to spare. Which is absolutely fine – it’s your Twitter. Do with it as you see fit.

However, less time to invest means less time to waste, so it’s important that you ensure that you’re not only following the right people on Twitter – and right, as always, means right for you – but that the total number of people that you are following is always a manageable amount.

Zen And The Art Of Twitter

In a popular post I wrote that proposed 40 tips for Twitter users, a recurring theme was the importance of finding your equilibrium point on Twitter.

The key part of this concept is that it must be your equilibrium. It can’t be somebody else’s. Twitter simply doesn’t work if you copy and paste from the norms, behaviours and timelines of others. It’s your experience. Your standards. Your Twitter.

But to do this, you have to find your centre, that point in the middle where you’re comfortable. And it isn’t the type of comfort that makes you lazy and complacent. It’s the kind that provides you with a level of confidence in yourself, in the Twitter platform, and your part therein, to go on and do great things.

As I said, middle doesn’t mean boring. It means balance.

Have you ever asked this of yourself?

It’s an entirely reasonable question. And if you can’t respond in any kind of meaningful way, then there’s only one reasonable conclusion.

10 Must-Learn Lessons For Twitter Newbies

Congratulations!
