How Is Twitter Being Used In The UK? [STUDY]

Twitter is well-established in the United Kingdom with some 80 percent of the country’s 10 million Twitter users accessing the platform via a mobile device.

UK users are also avid users of Twitter whilst watching television, commuting, shopping and even whilst in bed, and a new study has unveiled further insights into just how ingrained the micro-blogging platform has become within the British consciousness.

Of particular interest for marketers, the report revealed that almost one in every twenty-five tweets sent in the UK mention brands – equating to an incredible 12,600 tweets per minute – which is perhaps the greatest indication yet of Twitter’s growing value to modern business.

REVEALED: The UK’s 100 Most Influential Twitter Users [REPORT]

The Independent has updated its Twitter 100 list, which looks at the UK’s most influential tweeters.

This year, tycoon and entrepreneur Richard Branson took the top spot, ahead of Sarah Brown (wife of former Prime Minister Gordon Brown) and (somewhat surprisingly) comedian Alan Carr.

UK SMBs: 71% Use Facebook, 60% Twitter, Six Out Of Ten Say Social Media Very Important To Vital

A new survey has revealed that the vast majority of small businesses in the UK are now actively using social media for marketing, recruitment and networking.

In their Small Business Survey 2012, polled 1,300 UK companies about their social networking usage, and found that 91 percent of respondents now use these channels for business purposes, up from 60 percent a year ago. Some 37 percent said that platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn were now ‘very important’ to their business, with 25 percent saying that they were ‘vital’.
