Did you know that Twitter is the fastest-growing social network in the world, registering an incredible 44 percent boost in active users between June 2012 and March 2013? Some 93 percent of marketers now use social media for business, and it’s easy to understand why: Facebook has 665 million daily active users, 45 million photos are uploaded to Instagram every day, two people sign up to LinkedIn every second and still wet-behind-the-ears Pinterest has quickly established itself as the market leader for e-commerce social sharing.
Did you know that 79 percent of businesses use social media (including blogs) for content marketing, with Twitter (55 percent) the network of choice, ahead of Facebook (54 percent) and LinkedIn (51 percent)? Content marketing has proven benefits for risk mitigation, lead generation, customer nurturing and more, and companies are taking notice: B2B marketers will allocate approximately 26 percent of their total marketing budgets to content marketing in 2013.
Did you know that 5 tweets per second contain a Vine link, and that studies are showing that a branded Vine is four times more likely to be seen than a branded video? It’s incredible to think that Vine, Twitter’s 6-second video sharing app, only opened its doors in January of this year, but has already exploded to tens of millions of users, and brands are starting to take notice.
Twitter is preparing itself for an initial public offering (IPO) that could value the company as highly as $15 billion, reports the Sunday Times, citing anonymous (but nonetheless compelling) senior banking sources.
Today, social analytics platform Topsy has unveiled a huge upgrade, adding Twitter’s entire history of 425 billion public tweets to its archives, which are available in all Topsy products, including the free tools on Topsy.com. What this means is that you can freely and quickly search every public tweet ever written on Topsy, including (but not limited to) your own. And because you can view these tweets in reverse-chronological order, it’s now really, really easy to see your first-ever tweets.
@YouTube maintains its top spot as the premier brand on Twitter, with its more than 32 million followers placing it first ahead of @Instagram and even the official @Twitter profile.
What would you do if an airline lost your luggage? Complain to a manager? Send them an angry email? Take it to Twitter? Well, the latter is exactly what one disgruntled flyer did. But when he didn’t get the response that he wanted, he took the matter to a whole other level.
How do you spread out your tweets throughout the day? Do you consciously choose when to send what, or are you more of a spontaneous tweeters? Spontaneity, if it’s who you are, is a great thing. However, it can lead to a Twitter account that is “blotchy” – lots of activity clustered together in the span of an hour or so, and then radio-silence for the rest of the day. Any business or professional Twitter account should make an effort to plan out their tweets – at least some of the time. And the 70/30 Rule will help you get there.
If you work in the business of hospitality, here are a few key statistics that will open your eyes – both with the thought of opportunity and, in some cases, unbridled terror.
