Here are our top 10 Twitter stories of the week.
Did you know that the average brand on Twitter receives 39 mentions each day? Less than 10 percent of tweets mentioning a company – which could be your company – start with @username. Which means that more than 90 percent of people are talking about you, rather than at you.
What do people like to share on social networks? Pictures, mostly, with about four in 10 sharing photos on platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Google+.
Did you know that your biggest advocates on Twitter are almost always those people with the lowest number of followers? Yep – fewer than one in 10 of your mentions are likely to come from Twitter’s so-called “power users”. Meanwhile, 91 percent of mentions will be from those with less than 500 followers.
Did you know that tweets with images generate 150 percent more retweets, 89 percent more favourites and 18 percent more clicks than those without?
Twitter’s analytics suite has always been fairly limited but a huge update from the company on Friday gives advertisers a veritable smorgasbord of data to help them better understand their tweet activity, including impressions, engagement, link clicks, retweets and more.
It doesn’t matter if you’re absolutely brand new to social media or a been there/done that/wrote the book social marketing ninja, setting up a new Twitter profile or Facebook Page can be a laboriously time-consuming process, especially when it comes to working out the sizes of all the images you need to make your channels – or those of your clients – stand out from the crowd.
A former Twitter employee is suing the company alleging age discrimination, reports SF Weekly.

The average U.S. brand sends 221 tweets each week, with every message an opportunity to connect, engage with and delight customers, both new and old. But brands that are too self-promotional risk losing touch with their audience – 61 percent of people say that they’d cut social ties with a business that doesn’t provide them with relevant content.
Journalists get a lot of email, and a ton of that is made up of press releases. How much? A new survey has revealed that the average reporter’s inbox picks up 50 press releases each week, with one in five being sent more than 100 missives every seven days.
