Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in the United Kingdom have doubled their marketing and advertising budgets in the past two years, with a sizeable chunk of that spend going towards social media, reveals new research from BIA/Kelsey.
Indeed, Facebook remains the top marketing channel used by SMBs, with 41.3 percent of respondents to BIA/Kelsey’s survey using the platform, up from 35.1 percent in 2011.
The report also noted that more than one in five (22.3 percent) of UK SMBs use Twitter, up from 18.2 percent two years ago. Email (30.7 percent) remains popular despite losing ground slightly since 2011, while use of online classified directories and print directories have both fallen heavily.
