Would you Buy “Uber50″, a 50 Cent-Themed Twitter Client?
What a pair of unlikely bedfellows. UberSocial for Blackberry and 50 Cent are partnering to bring you “Uber50″, a Twitter Client for Blackberry that comes with logos, icons, background art and even sounds from G-Unit Records rapper 50 Cent.
Partnering with a celebrity is a good move for UberMedia. The company is on notoriously thin ice with Twitter itself, and a little celebrity endorsement couldn’t hurt. Especially from a celebrity like 50 Cent, who has over 4.4 million followers.
Uber50 comes in a free and paid version. With the free version, users will get a fully-skinned 50 Cent Twitter client, complete with a custom icon and logo, a special section for the G-Unit Twitter list, and exclusive background art. The $1.99 version also includes a special “Welcome to the Gritty Darkside” theme, sound effects created by 50 Cent, and wallpaper for your Blackberry home screen.
As you’d expect, 50 Cent has been talking up his new Uber50 product on Twitter since its launch, sending out multiple tweets per hour and retweeting fans of the app.
It will be interesting to take a look at the download numbers for Uber50 in a couple of days. 50 Cent is very influential with his followers – the penny stock he started hocking on Twitter rose by $50 million in a single weekend (but dropped when he stopped Twitter-selling). Because Uber50 is a one-time purchase, his endorsement might really produce some amazing download numbers.
