Amazon has 80% of the UK book market
The Institute of Direct Marketing, www.theidm.com, released a report last week. This report was based on a survey of 2,000 consumers in the UK.
Of that number, about 7 out of 12 reported buying their books online, with 80% reported buying ebooks from Amazon UK. This is a significant lead over the next most popular, Waterstones, who got 8% of the vote.
Far fewer respondents shopped in Waterstones stores, 23%, or bought books from supermarkets, also at 23%. Slightly fewer consumers, 21%, said they bought titles from WH Smith.
If you’ve ever wondered in Amazon will dominate the UK eBook market like it does in the US, I think this survey answers your question.
