Amazon Opens Appstore In Japan

Just in time for the holidays, Amazon is launching the Amazon Appstore in Japan. The Amazon Appstore in Japan will compete with Apple’s App Store, which also sells apps in the region.

Japanese customers can access the Amazon Appstore on their Android phones and tablets by visiting this link. The store offers popular apps such as Facebook, Angry Birds and Skype, as well as local favorites such as Mushroom Garden and Yahoo! Headline. Like in the U.S., the Japanese app store will feature personalized recommendations and bestsellers lists.

Amazon launched its Kindle business in Japan last month when it began selling Kindle devices at Amazon.co.jp, as well as through a number of Japanese retailers including: K’s Holdings, Bic Camera, Joshin Denki, and Kitamura. At that time, the company also introduced the Kindle store in Japan to sell eBooks.
