Apple Chooses Bookwire as its First European eBook Aggregator
The digital content distributor Bookwire announced this week that it had signed a new partnership with Apple. Bookwire can now act as an entry point for anyone who wishes to sell an eBook in iBooks.
Apple came up with the idea of eBook aggregators last year. In its infinite wisdom, Apple decided that it didn’t want to deal directly with all the small publishers and self-published authors, Instead it decided to arrange for certain content distributors to act on its behalf. We first heard the term shortly after the iPad launched, when Ingram Digital announced that it had taken up the role.
The Frankfurt based Bookwire sees its new Apple partnership as the next step in its plan to offer comprehensive digital marketing for European publishers. It looks to be in an excellent position to help publishers sell their eBooks in the newly expanded iBookstore which added 26 countries last week.
