BlackBerry’s PlayBook Tablet To Cost Under $500
Apple beware! Business Week is reporting that the PlayBook tablet computer that is coming from Research In Motion Ltd., the maker of BlackBerry, will sell for less than $500.
With the iPad starting at $499 and going up to $829, a lower priced tablet will attract buyers. The Dell Streak runs for $549.99 and the Samsung Tablet is $399 from T-Mobile.
As more models enter the marketplace, pricing should become more competitive. Business Week has more: “’There’s going to be a lot of tablets on the market so I think pricing is going to start coming down,’ said Matt Thornton, an analyst at Avian Securities LLC in Boston. Pricing the PlayBook below $500 makes sense, particularly given the initial version will only have Wi-Fi connectivity, said Thornton, who has a ‘neutral’ rating on RIM.”
