Bootleg Apple Messaging App Removed From Google Play

Screen Shot 2013-09-25 at 11.38.27 AMAn app that let Android users send and receive messages through Apple’s iMessage service has been removed from Google Play.

The app was only available for about a week or so before its removal. The app raised privacy concerns as tech bloggers pointed out that the APK would allow the developer to access the user’s Apple ID and login information, which could be a risk to the user’s privacy. Computer World has the story:

Google confirmed that it yanked the app for violating its store policies. Dubbed “iMessage Chat,” the app came under quick fire Monday from other app developers who said the program may have been harvesting Apple ID usernames and passwords by passing packets through a China-based server.
