Baker & Taylor to Distribute Smashwords eBooks via Blio

The world’s largest self-pub eBook distributor picked up another eBookstore. Baker & Taylor has announced today that you’ll soon be able to choose from Smashwords’ catalog of 100,000 original titles published by 37,000 indie authors and small publishers.

The eBooks will be available via Blio apps for iOS, Android and PC. Libraries will also be able to buy the content via Axis 360, B&T’s recently launched digital library platform.

“Now that Blio offers the Smashwords catalogue, there is a really exciting opportunity for readers to discover the best in up-and-coming and independent authors and to have a great digital experience reading those books,” said Bob Nelson, president of Baker & Taylor’s Digital Group. “Our agreement with Smashwords expands the Blio library, offering new works across every genre.”

Gardner Books to Distribute eBooks via Blio

Baker & Taylor announced today that it had signed a new deal with one of the largest book wholesalers in the UK.

Gardner Books, working on behalf of nearly a thousand British eBook publishers, has agreed to supply its current catalog to Baker & Taylor so it can be distributed by the 8th most popular eBook platform, Blio. “Blio is an exciting development in the fast moving world of digital publishing and Gardners Books is delighted to bring this new software to publishers in the UK. The association with Baker & Taylor will create a unique opportunity for publishers in the UK & US to benefit from the extensive sales and marketing reach available in both markets,” said Bob Jackson, Commercial Director of Gardners Books.

Blio offers an adequate reading experience for both narrative and illustrated titles. This platform, which was voted most delayed reading platform of 2010, is currently available for PC, iOS, and Android. If you would like to see a demo, Baker & Taylor and Gardners Books will be exhibiting at the Frankfurt International Book Fair this week.

Blio Reading App Now Out for Android

At long last Blio has finally come to Android.

Android owners can now download the Blio app from the Android Market and run it on any smartphone or tablet with Froyo, Gingerbread, or Honeycomb versions of the Android OS. They’ll be able buy any of over a million free and paid ebooks which are supplied by Baker & Taylor, the world’s largest distributor of print and digital books.

Blio was developed by people who thought that bringing books to life is about more than just recreating the words on the page. It does more than just show eBooks, it displays books in full color, with fonts, pictures, and layout just as the publisher intended.

“With Blio, people don’t just read books, they experience books. Now more readers can immerse themselves in the topics they love and see their books come to life,” said Ray Kurzweil, inventor and founder of K-NFB Reading Technology. “Blio offers the most versatility for readers, and making Blio available on Android devices lets many more readers take their library wherever they go.”
