Calibre eBook Library Updated

The weekly update to calibre has just been posted, and it adds support for another gadget.

Alongside the tweaks and bug fixes, today’s update adds a new device driver. owners of the Motorola X2 can now use calibre to transfer ebooks to and from the phone. No effort will be required (other than plugging in the X2). The update also adds several new output options for Kindle eBooks as well as better support for reading PDF metadata.

Calibre eBook Library Updated

Kovid Goyal has just posted the weekly update to calibre.

Today’s update adds a number of bug fixes, tweaks, and a  duplicate feature has been removed. But the important change this week is that calibre now supports direct downloads from Project Gutenberg. On a related note, the Open Library has been removed because its contents duplicated the eBooks accessible through the Internet Archive. Both PG and IA eBooks can be found under the “Get Books” option.

Calibre 0.8.3 Adds Support for new Nook Touch

Today’s update adds support for several more eBookstores, a number of minor feature tweaks, several bug fixes, and one important feature. Calibre now supports the Nook Touch. It was announced on Tuesday and he adds support by Friday. Yes, Kovid does work that fast.

Calibre 0.8.0 Now Available

Kovid Goyal has just released the next major update to calibre, the best free eBook management on the market.

While this release does not add any new features itself, it still marks a major milestone in the development road map of calibre. There have been a significant changes to calibre in the year or so since v0.7.0 was first released.

Calibre is free app that will help you convert eBooks and transfer them to your eReader. It supports a wide variety of eBook formats and just about every eReader on the market.

Calibre Launches Website for DRM Free eBooks

Kovid Goyal just posted the weekly update for calibre, and it includes a surprise.

Alongside the list of big fixes, tweaks, and new features, there’s a quiet mention of a new website. He’s started a site to catalog sources of DRM-free ebooks.

Note that these aren’t ebooks that you can download for free. Some sources will be commercial ebookstores. The point of this new site is that it will help you find ebooks that you know for sure can be converted and loaded on to your eReader.
