Japanese Vending Machine Dispenses eBooks

Japan really does seem to have a vending machine for everything. Toys, umbrellas, flowers and neckties can all be purchased in vending machines in Japan. And now you may even be able to buy eBooks in a vending machine one day.

Glory, a company that makes vending machines and ATMs, reportedly debuted an eBook distributing vending machine prototype at the Tokyo Book Fair.

Ubergizmo explains: “You might be asking, ‘How do you dispense ebooks since they’re not physical?’ Well in this case, all the user would have to do is insert money into the machine, and the machine will then proceed to dispense a receipt with a QR code on it along with other information. The user can then scan the QR code with their ebook reader or smartphone, and proceed to redeem it.”

SendToReader Lets You Send Webpages to our Kindle

A new site launched in the past couple days and like several before it, it can help you save a copy of a webpage and send it to a Kindle.

SendToReader works basically the way you’d expect. You have to create an account and provide your Kindle’s email address, and then you can use a bookmarklet to automatically send whatever page you’re currently visiting to your Kindle.

It only works with Kindle email addresses, and it’s set up so you can only use 1 Kindle per account. You’ll need to create multiple accounts if you have more than one Kindle.

Stieg Larsson And Twilight Dominate eBook Downloads At Libraries

Stieg Larsson dominates eBook library downloads in September, according to digital book distributor OverDrive.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest were the top 3 adult fiction eBooks on OverDrive’s ‘Most Downloaded Books from the Library’ list for September 2010.

The top three adult nonfiction eBook titles for September were Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert, Sh*t My Dad Says by Justin Halpern and Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang by Chelsea Handler.

When it comes to juvenile fiction, Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight books dominated. Breaking Dawn, Twilight and Eclipse were the top 3 juvenile eBooks downloaded through OverDrive.

Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy novels topped over OverDrive’s “Most Downloaded Books from the Library” lists in July 2010. The popular author topped OverDrive’s top adult fiction eBook and audiobook lists in July, with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo remaining the most downloaded digital book on OverDrive-powered library websites.

It’s not really a surprise considering that the Scandinavian author has sold more than a million eBooks, including a million Kindle eBooks alone.

James Patterson and Maxine Paetro’s Private and Nora Roberts’ The Search both made the adult fiction eBook list for the first time, at No. 5 and No. 7, respectively. Justin Halpern’s Sh*t My Dad Says; Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat, Pray, Love; Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang by Chelsea Handler; and Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell topped the adult nonfiction eBook download list.
