Princeton University Press to Launch Princeton Shorts

Princeton University Press is about to launch a new series of short nonfiction eBooks.  It’s called Princeton Shorts and each title will be based on excerpts from some of PUP’s more popular and critically regarded titles.

The new series will go live in early November with 5 titles; prices will range from $2 to $5. The excerpts are going to vary in size from a single chapter to up to 100 pages, wbut each will be designed to give the reader an immediate and valuble grasp on a given topic. Princeton University Press director Peter Dougherty said the new venture, “joins content from some of Princeton’s most celebrated published titles with the genius of rapid, online delivery.”

PUP has already named several of the Princeton Shorts, including: Second Great Contraction (excerpted from Reinhart and Rogoff’s, This Time Is Different: Eight Centuries of Financial Folly) $4.99; and On Victory and Defeat (excerpted from Clausewitz’s On War) $3.99.

PUP currently distributes several hundred eBooks, and you can find them in most eBookstores including Kindle, Nook, Sony, and others.

The story is called The Bathtub Spy, and it tells the story of a middle-aged intelligence bureaucrat and his unusual relationship with his boss. You can find it in the Kindle Singles Store for $1.99.

“It wasn’t long ago that stories like this could only be published in a magazine, collection or anthology,” said Russ Grandinetti, Vice President of Kindle Content. “But Kindle has really opened up the world of short stories, making it possible for authors to get compelling ideas out to their readers in a new way.”

This just one of 92 short stories, novella, and other pocket works that can be found in the singles store. Many other authors have decided to offer a title or 2 in this store, including Stephen King, David Margolick, Lee Child, and Elizabeth Mitchell. You can even find a couple free titles there.
