Kno is Giving Away $10 Million in Textbooks

It’s early December, so the average college student is probably getting their textbooks for the Spring semester. Kno can help you with that.

The digital textbook seller has launched a new promotion this week. If you give Kno your EDU email address you’ll get the chance to get a free textbook from the Kno eBookstore.

Kno isn’t completely clear on what you need to do besides give them your email, but the fine print does say that the giveaway “favors users who share with Facebook friends & is first come, first serve.” I don’t have a college email address anymore, so I cannot follow up and see what is involved. But I strongly urge you to check; this could be a free textbook.

Kno first appeared on the textbook scene last fall with the Kno tablet, a dual screen digital textbook platform. This tablet ended up being too expensive for students, so Kno scrapped the hardware and pivoted to providing textbooks via an iPad app. They have also launched a browser based textbook app, and you can read a textbook in both the iPad app and the browser at the same time.

Kno to Launch Browser & Facebook Based Textbook Apps

I wouldn’t visit the Kno website for the next few days; it’s down currently because Kno is working on a new site that’s going to let students read their textbooks sans the Kno iPad app.

Know is also working on a Facebook based reading app, but it doesn’t appear to be working either. In fact, the Facebook app appears to simply be a plug-in that will show the Kno website on Facebook. It’s not actually a native app.

I have been told by Kno that the site should be back up later today.
