Apple approved its 500,ooo app yesterday. That’s over twice the number of apps of its nearest competitor, Google’s Android Market.

The number alone is startling, but when you get into the details this milestone is mind boggling. The following infographic was a joint effort of  the app review site 148apps, app search engine Chomp, and game publisher Chillingo.  It’s a snapshot of this moment, showing the app ecosystem as it is today, its future growth projections and more.
