Adobe Reader for iOS, Android Updated with Cloud Support

When Amazon released the new Kindles last fall they added a number of new feature. One which I found immensely useful was Kindle Cloud; it enabled me to save my ebooks and annotations to Amazon’s servers and then transfer them to my other Kindles and Kindle apps.

Today Adobe announced updates which brought similar features to their Android and iPad apps. In addition to better support for forms, Asian text, and DRMed PDF files, these apps can now access the PDF files which you have uploaded to Acrobat.com and download them so you can read, mark up, and continue to use them. Here’s how Adobe thinks you might use it: Read more

Adobe Reader for Android Updated

Adobe is no slouch when it comes toadding useful new features to their apps, and today’s update for the Android app is no exception.

Among the several updates include a new and improved library function. You can now organize your PDFs into folders, as well as copy, move, rename, and delete the PDFs – all from inside the app. The app also has improved support for forms, making it easier to fill one out while on the go. And it has a new annotation option which I’m looking forward to trying; you can add text to your PDFs with the Add Text tool.

Adobe is also reporting that they fixed a number of bugs and performance issues, and that they are looking to make more improvements as time goes on.

HTC Now Shipping Foxit PDF Software on the HTC Flyer

Foxit is pleased to announce that HTC will be preloading its PDF reading Android app on the HTC Flyer. If you’d like to try this Android app you can find it on Foxit’s website. It’s shown as beta, so be warned.

I haven’t tried this app, so i cannot comment on how well it functions. But I have used Adobe’s Android app and Reader for Android was so lacking in ability that it was fairly useless. The Foxit app is worth trying simply because it can’t possibly be any worse.

Speaking of PDF apps, last fall I reviewed a round up of 5 freely available PDF reading apps for Android. I hope it helps you find the app you want.

Adobe Launches a PDF Maker for Android

Adobe has just released a new app that will let you make PDFs from your Android tablet.

You can use the app to access a new web service which will convert your documents to PDF. Many formats are supported, including doc, Excel, ppt, rtf, txt,WordPerfect, and more. Conversions won’t actually take place on your phone, which is a plus. This means you don’t have to worry about the app smothering your underpowered Android gadget. The app works with any files stored on your device and it can convert docs found elsewhere (email attachments, for example).

Adobe CreatePDF is selling for $9.99 right now on the Android Market. For more details, check out the demo video:
