Wattpad Is Running Writing Contest For Teens

Online publishing community Wattpad has teamed up with author Lisa McMann and Simon & Schuster’s online writing community PulseIt for a writing contest that will bring one teen writer to New York.

Entrants must write 1,000 words responding to McMann’s prompt: “I twisted my hair into a ponytail, tucking it under my cap and lowering the brim. Then I took a final look around the room full of strangers, wondering which of them would help me escape, and which would try to kill me.”

Writers must be Wattpad and PulseIt members, live in the U.S. or Canada and be between the ages of 14-18 to enter. Follow this link for more details.

WattPad Now Has 1 Million Registered Users

The world’s largest online book community has just set a new milestone. WattPad announced Monday that it had registered 1,000,000 readers and writers since it launched 5 years ago.

WattPad started in the basement of Allen Lau, CEO of WattPad, back in 2006. Since that day it has grown from 2 employees and a handful of users to 15 employees, several houseplants (they’re the IT department), and over 1 million users.

It’s grown from just a basic site and a few basic apps to  having apps on all major mobile platform and having readers on over 600 smartphone networks in over 160 countries. If counted together, the wattpad mobile app is very the world’s most popular ebook app.
