Wikitude Brings Augmented Reality to Web Browsers

Augmented reality has been around for any number of years but up until now you usually needed a special app to work with your camera so it could show you the special effect. Thanks to Wikitude, that’s about to change.

This startup has just released a new SDK which in the long run is going to enable you to use various tricks of augmented reality on any enabled webpage. This software development kit isn’t for the end user, so it’s not of much use yet. Instead it’s a tool for developers to use when they build websites.

It’s only after the webpage is built that things get interesting. You’ll be able to point your camera at a scene and see location data, geotags, and other useful info that’s not visible to the naked eye.

So what can developers and publishers do with it? Wikitude explains more in this video: Read more

Firefox 14 for Android Now in Beta

For some time now Mozilla has been hinting that the next version of Firefox for Android would have a major interface redesign, and it’s finally here. The beta release of FF14 is now available for download in Google Play. It has a new interface as well as a number of performance enhancements, support for Adobe Flash, a new start page, and more.

It requires Android 2.2 or above, and it might not be available for all devices.

Mobicip Offers Child-Safe Browsing

One of the key ways to improve tech skills is to hand someone a difficult problem and let them puzzle out a solution. That is how I see the Mobicip Safe Browser, a third party web browser iOS and Android.

This browser is based on a new cloud-based content filter engine that can identify and block unsuitable content while a child is using. This puts Mobicip one step up on some of its competition, especially the ones that rely on a white list . It is expressly designed by Mobicip to provide a safe, secure and educational Internet and YouTube for families and school-age children.

The browser offers  a nearly identical experiencing to the native browser on Android and the iPad, thus making it easy for kids to learn how to use. It comes with all the features you’d expect, including tabs, URL history, bookmarks, and more. The app costs $5 and is available for iOS and Android.

Chrome Now Available on Android

At long last Google has combined its web browser with its mobile OS. Earlier today Google announced the first beta release of Chrome for Android. It only works on the latest version of Android, and it is not yet available in all countries.

This reported is still in the process of downloading and installing it, but I m looking forward to it. Early reports suggest that it is quite the speedy browser, with some bloggers appreciating it over their preferred browser.
